			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><a href='http://www.gurdy.net' target='_blank'>Are you happy</a> with your life or, indeed, with yourself?  The chances are that there are things that you would want to alter in both you and your life – I’ve rarely encounter anybody who is one hundred percent happy.  Of course, people sometimes think that if they improve themselves, get fit, buy a new car, have really cool holidays that, then, they’ll be happy.  But, that ‘happy’, however, is superficial and passing.  True <a href='http://www.gurdy.net' target='_blank'>happiness</a> should be lasting and not based on having this or doing that.</p>
<p>The one place that you will find happiness is within.  Unfortunately, that is a foreign country to protected from them by what psychology calls ‘The Sentry’, a defence mechanism that we all have which prevents other people getting into our heads to brainwash us.  Unfortunately, this ‘Sentry’ keeps us out too!  For a very good reason – or, at least, it appears like a good idea until you take a closer look at how we operate – our beliefs about how the world operates and who we are are stored in our subconscious.  You wouldn’t want to go messing with those, would you?  Or would you?  Because most of us believe ourselves to be inadequate at least in some way, most of us aren’t totally happy with who we are.  That’s because our beliefs aren’t grounded in fact but on an accumulation of what we call the programming or conditioning that we were subject to during what is generally described as our formative years.   This programming or conditioning is both the source of your discomfort with yourself and, just as importantly, everything that you perceive to be wrong in your life.</p>
<p>What passes for reality is created by our beliefs – it is those beliefs that automatically dictate our behaviour, our actions, our reactions and our interactions with others.   It is through this process that we, ourselves, create our take on reality.  What’s going on in your head, at the deepest subconscious level, quite literally creates your life.  And it ain’t real, it’s made up from what others did for us or to us during those formative years.  So of course you want to go messing with your beliefs, because normal beliefs hold normal people back.</p>
<p>You’ve got to go beyond your beliefs.  You need to get to the real, inner you, to <a href='http://www.gurdy.net' target='_blank'>find true happiness</a> – that is where you will unearth a you that is unstained by the crap of normal conditioning, unspoilt by the deeply held beliefs that mess up our normal lives – silly beliefs that keep us in our place – like we should know our place, like you have to work hard to succeed, like pleasure/pain principle, that all laughing comes to crying –  I’m sure you’ve got your own list.</p>
<p>Forget all that nonsense.  Also, forget about who you believed you were and discover who you really are – and the wonderful life that you can really have.  Your mind’s been focused on normal crap – stop it.  I teach my clients various forms of ‘mental calming measures’ – meditation if you will – you need to calm down, wake up and see the light.  And then you will find complete happiness.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Although the effects of <a href='http://www.gurdy.net' target='_blank'>depression</a> may be all too obvious for you, depression isn’t real.  If you think that you’re suffering from depression, you’re only imagining it because depression is the direct result of your subconscious mind’s obsession with useless thoughts that were impressed upon it during your childhood years.  It is normal for your subconscious mind to live in the past – everyone’s does – it’s just that the nonsense that yours is focused on is probably a little (or a lot) out of the ordinary.  Of course, that’s not your fault – your subconscious mind was impressed with these thoughts by others, people and events that made you feel worthless, guilty, upset during your childhood years.</p>
<p>Whilst it’s normal for your subconscious to dwell on past deeply-rooted thoughts, it’s doing you damage – you have the evidence of it in your daily life.  Again, you shouldn’t feel bad about this – everyone’s subconscious mind is doing the same damage – at least you have the advantage over others in realizing that you’ve got a problem.</p>
<p>But that problem is solely down to what your subconscious mind is thinking about.  What you have to do is tear your mind away from those <a href='http://www.gurdy.net' target='_blank'>self-destructive thoughts</a> and redirect your attention to the only time and place that is actually real, the one place and time that you can actually live – the here and now.  If you manage to turn your attention to the present moment you will experience something that you probably have never experienced before – depression is an illusion, there’s no such thing as fear or worry, there’s simply this world full of possibilities and opportunity – and quantum physics proves that this wonderful world is simply waiting to respond to your hopes and dreams.</p>
<p>Pills or medication will not enable you experience the difference between reality and the fiction of stress – they might make the pain vanish for a while but your subconscious mind will always slink back to the old, out-dated thoughts that aren’t real but just an imprint of your own ancient history.  The only way in which you will experience reality – one without <a href='http://www.gurdy.net' target='_blank'>depression</a> – is to learn how to clear your mind.  No hassle!  Because, as a youngster, you had a totally clear mind – that’s how those bad feelings were impressed upon you in the first place.   All you must to do now is re-train yourself to focus on what your five senses are telling you, right here, right now – without adding your subconscious mind’s warped interpretation onto the facts.</p>
<p>I believe that the best way to relearn how to pay attention to the reality of the here and now is meditation – preferably, for starters, guided meditation.  It may take you a while to get used to it, you may find it difficult, but a small amount of commitment will yield the enormous benefit of your being able to live your life to the full.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I get these strange comments to some of my posts.  I recently posted a piece on the importance of paying attention to the here and now,  which made the point that it’s the only time and place that you can be – and if you couldn’t be bothered to turn up to the reality of the here and now, how can you reasonably expect to get anything much out of life.   I received a comment – from someone who signed themselves as a “<a href='http://www.gurdy.net' target='_blank'>personal development</a> expert” said that, OK, the here and now is all very well – but really personal development is about choice and awareness.</p>
<p>So, here’s the big question: <a href='http://www.gurdy.net' target='_blank'>What is Awareness</a>?  Let’s make it even easier – what can you be aware of at any particular point in time?   Of course, you could be aware of your thoughts – most people aren’t because, as decades of research prove, most people aren’t aware of anything much at all.  You could be aware that you’re feeling frustrated or fearful – but these so-called emotions are nothing more than the product of the thoughts that you’re not aware of in the first place.  You could be aware of how you feel about yourself – your own self-image – but that’s not awareness, that’s getting involved in the continuous internal power struggle between you and <a href='http://www.gurdy.net' target='_blank'>your personality</a> (remember, personality is dervided from the Latin word, “persona”, meaning a mask and your personality is simply the amalgamation of all the personal “snapshots” you took as a child).</p>
<p>Real awareness is being aware of the here and now.   To paraphrase the Buddha, when I am walking, I am aware that I am putting one foot in front of the other.   Only in the present moment will you find reality.  In fact – scientific fact as probed by quantum physics – only in the present moment does anything exist and all that exists is changing moment to moment.  </p>
<p>And what of the choice we must make?  We have a stark choice that has a fundamental impact on our lives – we can choose to be aware or we can (and this is the mindless choice made by normal people) choose to live in a make-believe world created by our own, predominantly negative, thoughts.   This is a choice that we must make time and again, in each moment because no one becomes aware and stays aware – it is a continual in exactly the same way that the reality of the world in which we live is an ongoing process.</p>
<p>The life you are living is how it is as a result of your action, reaction or inaction in the present moment.  The normal person reacts to their own thoughts and perceptions.  The extraordinarily successful person acts on the basis of the facts in the moment and, as a result, creates a life that is exciting, spontaneous, adventurous, fulfilled and successful.  Now, do you think you might be up to making that choice? </p>

<p>What if I do this or if I do that, What if I don’t do this, or that.</p>
<p>What if.</p>
<p>The road of possibilities to go down and dare to dream, dare to try different things, to think out of the box, do what you want and not what you feel is expected of you.</p>
<p>Start to think that anything is possible and nothing is impossible.  The only thing that could be seen as impossible is the things you have not tried or completed the action of doing.</p>
<p>A <a href='http://www.zazzle.co.uk/a_road_of_possibilites_button-145377781658020144' target='_blank'>road of possibilities</a> keeps moving forward and enjoys each moment along the way, enjoys each experience, because each experience teaches you something different.</p>
<p>If you do not get something right the first time them all that is telling you is that you need to try another way of doing it, it is not telling you that you should stop and give up.</p>
<p>A road of possibilities is your story so you can put what you want in it.  You can be whatever you want to be.  You can have whatever you want to have and you can do whatever you want to do because it is your story.</p>
<p>A road of possibilities, visualize what is your journey will be like, visualize what it would look like, visualize what it will feel like.</p>
<p>What house, will you have in your World?<br />
What car will you drive?<br />
What will you do to create your finances? and <br />
What tools will you require to help?</p>
<p>Visualize how you want your world to look and start working towards turning your dreams your reality.</p>
<p>Start working towards the things that you have always wanted to do in your life but never thought it possible or thought that it was for the other person and not for you.</p>
<p>Well it is for you and you can do it whatever it is.  You have the ability to make your dreams come true.</p>
<p>You need to start believing in yourself and that you can do it and you can make it happen, you and only your have the power to turn your dreams into your reality.</p>
<p>But first you must start believing that you can do it and that you deserve it before you can start to receive it.</p>

<p>If you are trying to decide if you should go to a recovery meeting, stop thinking and just go.  As they say in Recovery if you think you dont need a meeting that is when you need one the most.  When I was a teenager I was introduced to Narcotics Anonymous.  I did not think I had a problem I was just having fun like everyone else.  I didnt realize I had lost trust from friends and family because of my lifestyle.  I made excuses for myself.</p>
<p>Drugs are really never the reason for your problems.  Your problems are a result of not dealing with issues and feelings that you have (which has probably led to drugs/alcohol).</p>
<p>Life seems to go so fast and most people really never take the time to get to know themselves and why they do the things they do.  NA or AA is not a place where people get together to convince one another to stop using drugs.  NA is a place where you learn the tools to deal with your problems and take the time to get to know yourself.</p>
<p>The 12 Steps of NA/AA are so simple and you may think you can read them and know all the answers.  People at NA/AA spend weeks or months on every step.  The very first step is &#8220;We admitted we were powerless over our addiction that our lives had become unmanageable.&#8221;</p>
<p>The 12 step program was actually based on the Beatitudes in the Bible.  It says &#8220;Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.&#8221;<br />
The first step simply means &#8220;I need help- I cant do it alone.&#8221;</p>
<p>The secret is simple we must discover our soft spot, our weak link, our ignorant area and we must become &#8220;poor in spirit&#8221;, humble our attitude, acknowledge our weakness and ask for help.</p>
<p>Narcotics Anonymous and Alcoholics Anonymous are such great programs.  I do not regret my past, afterall it brought me to Meetings.</p>

<p>What do you do early on in recovery.   Where do you start when you finally make the decision that this way of life isn’t working?   There are several schools of thought on this but here are a few ideas.</p>
<p>Change your <em>playmates and playgrounds</em>.   I have learned from personal experience that this is probably number one on the list.   I’ve read that the number one reason for relapse is simply someone making an offer.   Either “Do you need any?   I’m holding.” or “Some of the guys from work are going down to the bar.   You wanna come?”.   Especially early on, you need to stay away from people and places you used to use your DOC.</p>
<p>Get involved in a recovery program.   For most people, you’re not gonna have any long-term success by yourself.   For the Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous it’s go to meeting.   90 meetings in 90 days is what they say.  Why?  Because when you force the body to go, the mind will follow.   They even say it’s ok to show up drunk or high.   When you get involved in a recovery program of some kind, eventually, it will sink in.</p>
<p>Read up on addiction.   There is a huge amount of information on the subject out on the internet or even the “Big Book” for some.</p>
<p>Make your recovery number one in your life.   It has to be the highest priority for you.   When you get out of bed say to yourself “I don’t know what all will happen today, but today I will not use/drink”.</p>
<p>There are many more.   I’ll get back to this subject in the future.</p>
