Electronic Cigarettes : A Look At How They Work

When you put an electronic cigarette between your lips and inhale, air flow is detected by a sensor, which triggers a heating element that vaporizes a nicotine solution which is stored in the mouthpiece. Most electronic cigarettes have an LED on the outer end of them that is also activated whilst inhaling – the purpose of it being to look like the lighted end of a real cigarette. The LED can be purchased in a number of different colors, but most people prefer the orange-red glow, as it is the most realistic.

The mouthpiece of an electronic cigarette is a small plastic cap that screws on to a white tube, which is the same size and shape as a normal cigarette. There are some variations in how they work and look, but the general idea is always the same. Though you might be wondering if they can really be effective, they have been proven to be so. The main thing that keeps you addicted to cigarettes is the nicotine in them, and that is just what electronic cigarettes give you – nicotine.

The heated part of electronic cigarettes vaporizes the liquid nicotine in the cartridge to allow it to be inhaled. Some models combine the atomizer and cartridge in one component, which is known a ‘cartomizer’. Most electronic cigarettes use a lithium-ion rechargeable battery to operate the heating element. How long the battery lasts for varies depending on the battery type and size, how often it is used, and the operating environment. You can recharge the battery using either a wall socket or in-car charger.

The nicotine solution in an electronic cigarette will, of course, run out over time, but the good news is that you can buy refills. Therefore, you do not need to keep buying a new electronic cigarette every week. As well as nicotine, the solution also contains either propylene glycol or glycerin. Though the names of those chemicals do not sound too friendly, they are actually not harmful at all, and are both commonly used in food additives. You can choose between a range of different concentrations of nicotine solution, depending on how addicted you are to nicotine. 4mg/ml is the lowest concentration, and 50mg/ml is about the highest.

You should aim to steadily reduce the concentration of the nicotine solution that you use. Start off with a concentrate that works out equal to the number of normal cigarettes that you have been smoking (you can use a free online tool to do this) and then reduce the concentration of the nicotine solution used for the electronic cigarette on a weekly basis. It will depend on how much you are smoking now, but it is not unrealistic to be able to cut out your nicotine addiction within a couple of months.

Vapor Cigarettes : The Way To Quit Smoking

The first time I lit up was almost 20 years ago right after I turned 18. Inhaling was difficult and I remember coughing a lot, but after a few tries was able to take full drag. Soon I started “bumming” cigs of my friends enough that that got annoyed and just told me to go buy a pack. A few weeks later I was buying packs every few days and smoking first thing in the morning. The craving had taken hold, but at the time smoking was enjoyable or me. It tasted great after a meal or with my morning coffee. Plus at work everyone smoked so it became a social outlet. Before I knew it a year had gone by and I was a regular smoker.

Buying cigarettes every day became an expensive habit. At the time my brand cost around 3 bucks per pack, and I was smoking a pack per day solid. That added up to 90 bucks a month just a cigarettes, not to mention the other miscellaneous shopping that accompanied a cig run. Every time I went to the store to buy cigs a soda, gum or candy came along for the ride. Don’t forget about cigarette lighters, how many of those did I lose every month! The final tally was over 100 bucks per month on cigarettes but was easily justified by the cravings.
The moment I wake up in the morning the first thing on my mind was to have a smoke. Sometimes I hardly set a foot out of bed before a cig was lit in my mouth.

Smoking before you brush your teeth always tasted better so I would try to get a few drags in during the slow morning walk from the bedroom to the bathroom. By now I was smoking for years and at a pack solid sometimes two depending what I was doing. A night out with friends at the bar would mean smoking heavily and going though two packs would be no problem. My smoking habit was getting out of control.

It was time to quit but how? Patches, gum and mints upset my stomach and never really helped the need to hold or puff the cig. Sure they help with some of the nicotine withdrawals but more times than not made me sick rather than calm my cravings. The best solution I found was using those new smokeless cigarettes that uses water vapor rather than smoke. They look, taste and feel like a real cig and give nice nicotine buzz too. They are even safe to use and not affected by the new smoking bans. The flavors are tasty (I like coffee or apple the best). If you are trying to stop smoking I would defiantly recommend trying a electronic cigarette.

Stop Smoking – A Guide To Nicotine Chewing Gum

A massive 10 million cigarettes are bought every minute. Why? Lots of people say that smoking gives them a feeling of comfort and / or makes them feel more confident. Some people also say that smoking clears their mind and helps them think. Still, even though smokers have their reasons, few would deny that it damages their health. More and more people are realizing this fact and want to adopt a healthier lifestyle. The trouble with quitting is the addiction. It is not the cigarettes as a whole that are addictive, just one ‘ingredient’ that goes into them – nicotine. Those who become used to nicotine get headaches, have difficulty concentrating and feel depressed when they deprive their body of it. The solution? Nicotine gum, which is chewing gum laced with nicotine that was first introduced in the 80s. It is now the most popular quit smoking aid.

Nicotine-laced gum can these days be bought in most chemists and pharmacies. Doctors recommend using the gum for up to 12 weeks. After that time, you should speak with your physician if you still feel the need to smoke. Unfortunately, some smokers find themselves becoming addicted to the nicotine gum. In a sense, people kick one habit and trade it for another. You may ask – “Is that bad?” Whilst no addiction is good for someone, it is clearly better to be addicted to something that provides minimal risk to your health. Remember that is not actually the nicotine in cigarettes that causes all of the health problems associated with smoking. The reason cigarettes are so unhealthy is because of the thousands of chemicals added to them by the manufacturers. These chemicals are not found in nicotine gum.

Nicotine gum always gives your body nicotine in a more sensible way, as the levels of the stimulant are lower, and it slow enters your body over an hour or so, rather than just 5 minutes. Do not be fooled into thinking that nicotine gum is an easy solution to your cigarette habit though, as it is not. The longer you use the gum, the more addicted to it you will be, and more similar the withdrawal symptoms will be to those faced when quitting smoking. This specialized gum is not cheap either. You can expect to be paying upwards of $5 for one pack of nicotine gum, and you get addicted to it then you may find yourself buying a couple of packs of it a day. It is a step in the right direction though, so first deal with quitting cigarettes, and then deal with quitting nicotine gum at a later date. Hopefully though, the gum addiction will not even arise – for most people it does not.

Tips For Smokers Who Want To Quit

Tip #1: Tell others when you will stop smoking.

If you tell other people when you will quit smoking, then you will will be more motivated and committed. Ensure that you are surrounded by people with positive attitudes who want to see you succeed.

You don’t want to tell every single person you know because some people may judge you and make you feel bad about your current situation. So, choose the people wisely in terms of who to tell when you quit smoking cigarettes.

Tip #2: Know exactly why you want to quit.

Take some time off to reflect on the deep reason that you want to stop smoking cigarettes. Initially, you may say that you want to quit just for health reasons. But don’t just stop there. Keep going deeper and finding the core reason you want to stop smoking cigarettes.

Once you establish your own deep rooted reason (which I like to call your inner why), you will have that clarity that you need in order to succeed. You will have that extra motivation to go out there and do whatever it takes to make your goals a reality.

Tip #3: Keep a water bottle with you at all times.

Every time you have an urge to smoke, you need to find something to occupy your mind and body. A simple replacement is to drink water. Drinking water is healthy, cheap, and easy. So anytime you have a desire to smoke, then get that water bottle and drink some water. In the beginning, this may seem difficult, but you will soon get used to it.

Tip #4: Spend more time with people who don’t smoke.

One of the biggest reasons people smoke is because the people they hang out with are smokers as well. So, you want to end this cycle. Start to hang out with people who don’t smoke. Spend more time with non-smokers than smokers. You will feel more pressure not to smoke when you are with your non-smoking friends.

At first, this may seem uncomfortable, but there is power in influence through those that you spend the most time with. That’s because you become like the five closest people that you hang out with most on a consistent basis. So, call up your non-smoking friends and tell them that you would love to see them more often.

Tip #5: Your first target should be 21 days without smoking.

People can establish a new habit if they do something for 21 days in a row. That means after you quit for 21 days in a row, it will be more natural to not smoke than to smoke. Just realize that the earliest stage will be the most difficult; that is the most important part of the journey.
